CHANNEL SURFING, PURPLE SHOW AND ORGANIZATION

The next 2 shows I have on the schedule are The Insomnia Gallery’s - Channel Surfing - An Art Tribute to Television on November 8 and my all time favorite, Purple Show: Part 6.

INSOMNIA GALLERY - CHANNEL SURFING

I made a long list of television shows that left an impact on me, ranging from Rocko’s Modern Life and Reboot to Breaking Bad and Eric. It is a huge list right now but I plan on narrowing it down to 6 or so ideas, and I will try to get 3-4 in the show. Stay tuned for more on that as I have much more to do before drop off day!

PURPLE SHOW PART 6

If you have never been to a Purple Show, this will be the 6th installment and the creator of this amazing event, Henry Murillo has got the whole Houston underground behind him. I have participate in all but one or two of the Purple Shows, and they always really show what Houston Culture is all about. From some of the best artists and creatives in Houston, to unique vendors and businesses, as well as some great food, refreshments and music, The Purple Show brings Houston Culture to life.

I am taking the opportunity Henry is giving us, and pumping out as much new work with the shows themes in mind as I can between now and then. I am also working in a new style. I have a lot of ideas for this show, and I am super pumped to see what all I churn out for this one.

Also, to brag on the homie Henry, he was just on The Isiah Factor this past week talking about his project Paint With the City. It is an amazing collaborative project that Henry started years ago, and I was lucky enough to add to. It has tons of amazing details and has had so many amazing people take part in it, be sure to check out Henry’s work, and stay tuned for more about the Purple Show pieces.

ORGANIZATION

The other thing I wanted to touch on is the organizational system I have been developing. It has always been extremely challenging for me to keep everything moving in the same direction. I have tried all sorts of systems, tools and hacks. Like most things, I have found I cant copy and paste these things into my life, I have to do it my way. I tried some of these planner/journal things that have all these templates laid out, monthly, weekly, daily calendars with sections to fill out goals and all sorts of stuff. I tried for a while, but it was overwhelming honestly. I have been using the following system for a few months and it isn’t perfect, but it seems to be helping, and I am still working on it every day.

So, I use a simple calendar, it just has the Month view, and then between months, there are weekly calendars with a little more room for writing on those particular dates. I use this to keep track of upcoming deadlines, shows and events. I make a note on the monthly calendar on the date of said deadline/event, and then on the weekly calendar for the corresponding date, I fill in all the important information. This calendar, and for me, a super simple option has been a game changer as far as keeping me on track and knowing what’s coming up.

Next up is my journal system. I started getting into Field Notes a few months back and I have been obsessed! There are a few reasons for this, first and foremost is the quality of these products and the wide range of offerings. I now use several of their books daily, in all aspects of life.

I am currently using the Field Notes - Pitch Black - Notebook as my daily carry journal. I write in it almost daily, and while I am still developing this practice, it too has improved my organization and functionality. I use different color pens for different thoughts or sections of life I am writing about. Along with the larger note book, I carry a smaller - Field Notes - Original Kraft - Memo Book. This one is more for random things I need to jot down that may be forgotten or later added to a list or something in the notebook or calendar.

Along with those, I am currently refining a Project Plan form I made to help keep specific projects on track and organized. This form can use some work, but it still serves a function, and is better than the days of me trying to keep all this in my head or keep track of post it notes or whatever crazy system I was trying to use before.

Thanks so much for checking out what I have going on and I hope someone may get a little insight or help from these blogs. As of now, my plan is to try to post a blog on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with some longer form video content coming to my youtube also very soon!

Thanks again for peepin!
